Are Women Born This Way?

Dumb title with (some) lame comments, but this is still a really sweet video of a child learning from those around her. Enjoy! :-)

Amusing Places & Delightful People: David de Rothschild and Plastiki
Mood:  bright
Now Playing: Alela Diane
Topic: Delightful People

"There’s a risk in everything," says environmentalist David de Rothschild. "But, really, how hard can it be?"
- From National Geographic

30 year-old David de Rothschild, an ecologist, is building a 60-foot catamaran out of plasic bottles and other recylable materials. This summer, he intends to embark upon a 3-month journey from San Francisco, CA to Sydney, Australia, with a stop at the massive Garbage Patch in the Pacific Ocean along the way.

For more information on David's boat and Plastiki's tour, go here.

Amusing Places & Delightful People: Going & Meetup
Mood:  chatty
Topic: Delightful People

If you're bored and looking for something to do, check out two websites -- Going and Meetup -- that connect people together and to interesting events.

Meetup is all about connecting like-minded people together for friendship and other possibilities. If you love sailing, religion, atheism, music, art, food, science, movies, or any other hobby or topic -- there are thousands of Meetup groups across the country -- there is a group for you! If you cannot find something you are interested in, you are welcome to create your own group and see who bites!

Going is a website dedicated to connecting people to events. Like Laughing Squid, it lists goings-on about town, and it seems to cover the things Scott and his many tentacles do not cover (and vice-versa), making the two sites compatible. If you do not see your city or town represented, and there is a lot ot do that you're dying to let the world know about, I suggest contacting the site owners and offering up your services as a social butterfly!

Amusing Places & Delightful People: 999 Eyes & That Damned Band
Mood:  amorous
Now Playing: That Damned Band: Hobo Soul (Malachi's Song)
Topic: Delightful People

This is a month to remind you all of the amazing places and delightful people in the US! Forget about much of what you read in the paper or watch on TV. Stop complaining about that SUV or that vacation to London that you cannot afford. What I'm going to reveal is a strong undercurrent to the US -- where presumably most of my readers hail from -- that keeps its individuality alive and its creative spirit prosperous. If you ever think you're too far away or that there's nothing new or interesting under the sun, please allow me to introduce my friends, family, and some of my favorite places in this country over the course of June 2009.

First up are my colleagues at the BRC-DPW, 999 Eyes & That Damned Band, a group of traveling adventurers and bonafied, self-identified freaks who put on one of the best vaudeville shows this world has ever seen. They make beautiful, scary traveling music, are genuine and strong individuals, and their cohesiveness as a group could give a lot of other bands a run for their hairspray and encrusted cash.

For more information on the band bringing back the freakshow and vaudville with a brand new twist, see their documentary short over at YouTube.
